The 2020 Presidential Election



Even though we can't vote yet doesn't mean we shouldn't understand voting and the 2020 election. I personally will be voting in 2024, and I can't wait! I can't wait for my opinion and my voice matter. I can't wait to really have a say! But, for know let's just understand the current election.


Voting is one of the most important rights we have as American citizens, every vote counts. Making sure that you are voting and voting for a canadite you feel represents you is so incredibly important. This year is an election year, and in November we will find out who will be President of the United States starting January 20, 2021 at noon. Even though we always find out the results of the election in November, the President does not take office until January 20th at noon. It has been like this since 1937!


 

Now, let's go over the candidates.


President Donald Trump is our current President and is running as the Republican candidate. He was first elected in 2016 and is now running for re-election and his running mate is current Vice President, Mike Pence.


Here is a list of some of his key political issues and views:

Jobs and money: Bringing back the pandemic-battered economy

Trade: Ending the 'reliance' on China and protecting US manufacturing

Foreign policy: 'America First' and reasserting US sovereignty

Immigration: Building the wall and curbing immigration

Health: Lower drug costs, terminate the Affordable Care Act

Climate change: Promoting US energy

Criminal justice: Database to trace police misbehavior

Gun control: Defending the Second Amendment


Joe Biden is the Democratic candidate. He was the Vice President alongside President Barack Obama for eight years. He is know running for President with Kamala Harris.


Here is a list of some of his key political issues and views:

Cornavirus: A national test and trace program.

Jobs and money: Raise minimum wage and invest in green energy

Race: Criminal justice reform, grants for minority communities

Climate change: Rejoin global climate accord

Foreign policy: Restore America's reputation... and maybe take on China

Health: Expand Obamacare

Immigration: Undo Trump's policies

Education: Universal pre-school, expand free college
